The 21 Day Fix, where to begin?! So I joined Beachbody in January I chose P90X3 as my challenge pack and I was so excited to get started!! Within 2 weeks the news came out that there was a new program being released in February. A program that was designed to show results within 21 Days by covering the basics of portion control and clean eating and by incorporating a 30 minute workout into each day. It sounded interesting, but my first thoughts were 1. I just bought this program and I am ready to rock it. 2. I have already started cleaning up my eating and making more healthy choices. The more I heard about the program and read about the program, my mind started to change and I knew I definitely wanted to try this out!
The day my fix came I opened the box and actually let out a chuckle when I saw the size of the containers! I thought to myself, “oh ok, they said you would learn portion control without starving, but by the looks of these containers, that is exactly what is going to happen” Right? Wrong! So what was in the box? The box contained my Shakeology, ShakeO recipes, the color coded containers, the meal plan guide book, a smaller book with the info for the 3 day quick fix, and the workout videos. I read through the program guide book and calculated my calories in order to determine the number of each color I would consume per day. Then I started to go through the different food options and come up with my meal plan (pictured below). The awesome part about this program is that YOU CHOOSE the food you WANT to eat! It doesn’t say you have to eat 3 hard-boiled eggs and 2oz grilled chicken, etc. It lists the color and the different foods that are allowed to go into that container and then you build your meal. It even shows you how to incorporate a treat and a glass of wine into your plan! Awesome!! I color coded the meal plan so I knew how many of each color I had for each meal. I planned 6 small meals per day and included Shakeology into my daily routine. I had my meals ready, I made sure I had a mini mat and weights for the workouts, I mentally prepared myself to get up early and get started, I was ready to go!!
I was prepared and ready to start. The only doubt that I had was about the workouts. I wasn’t sure that I was going to like them, from the preview I did, they seemed to be “less intense” than T25 or P90X3 and I am the type of person that needs to feel like I just worked out. I was pleasantly surprised that these workouts were far from “easy” they made me work just as hard and sweat just as much as the other programs. The only other question I had was about these portion sizes and if they were going to be enough to keep me from starving all day long. They just seemed so little! Well again, to my surprise, those containers pack a good amount of food. I remember at one point I mentioned to my husband that the portion I was eating seemed bigger than what I would have probably put on my plate! The program did not restrict me from eating things that I like such as chicken and vegetable stir fry, stuffed pepper soup, Asian beef and peppers with brown rice, and the list goes on. There are so many ways to “clean up” a classic dish in order to still enjoy it without all of the guilt. (See my recipes page!) I will be honest though, the program was a bit tricky in the beginning, for me at least. Don’t let it discourage you!! Once you understand the colors and keep your meal plan organized it will be smooth sailing.

I was part of a challenge group during round 1 and I am so thankful for that. I know the group is what really kept me going. I was held accountable, I found support I needed when I wanted to give up or skip a workout, there was tons of recipe sharing going on, and it was just nice to share stories with people that are in the same boat as me. I really enjoyed the journey of this and I can thank my fellow challengers for that!! I am so happy with my results and I am super pumped to see what I can achieve in round 2!
