So you have heard of the 21 Day Fix, you’ve seen the results photos, you’ve seen the infomercial, but you may still be thinking… “How does the 21 Day Fix work?” “What is it about the Fix that transforms your body in such a short time?” ” Is this real or fad?” Well, you have come to the right place! I will tell you how the 21 Day Fix works and how you can use this program to transform your body and the way you eat forever! I will break it down into a few simple steps that outline how it works.
Step 1: Portion Control
The 21 Day Fix allows you to understand the right types of foods and the right amounts for your body. The meal guide book has all the info you need to get started. With a quick calculation, you can determine the right amount of calories for your body based upon your weight and the amount of calories you will be burning during your workouts. Once you determine this number, then you can determine the amount of each color coded container that will be consumed daily. The color coded containers are broken down into food types; for instance, the red container is your proteins, the green is your veggies, blue is healthy fats, and so on. These containers are sized to be the perfect portion. The beauty of this program is that you do not have to count calories, measure your food, keep track of points, etc. AND you get to CHOOSE the meals you will be eating! It does not tell you the types of meals that you must be eating, you simply choose from the list of approved foods for each container and create your meals that way. Portion control is the most important part of maintaining a healthy weight. Most people do not even notice that they are overeating, especially with the large portions that are offered when dining out.
Step 2: Meal Planning
If you are anything like me, you hear those words and cringe! Before I started my journey with the 21 Day Fix, I would have never meal planned. I felt like it was too time consuming and my life was too hectic to be able to follow a meal plan. Since the Fix focuses on eating right and portion control in order to understand how to maintain a healthy weight, meal planning is a step that you cannot avoid. When I started the Fix, I quickly realized the whole 80% diet 20% exercise equation. There is nothing more true than that! For years I had been working out and eating whatever I wanted, that was okay since I worked out right!? Wrong! So anyway, back to meal planning. It turns out that meal planning is MUCH easier than I had ever imagined. AND to be honest, without it, I wouldn’t have had the results that I did from the program. It makes eating on the go much more simple, its SAVES MONEY when grocery shopping, and it allowed me to make sure I was fitting all of my containers into my day. The plans are very simple and if you are participating in a Challenge Group, your coach can provide examples for you. Here is an example of my week 1 meal plan. It is very basic, but once I got the hang of the containers and planning, I was able to make more complex recipes!
Step 3: The Workouts
Incorporating the workouts into your daily routine is the final step to complete the puzzle. The workouts are ONLY 30 minutes long and have a different focus each day. There are 7 workouts, including a stretch day that allows you active recovery during the program. The workouts are designed to work hand in hand with the containers and the amount of calories burned are calculated perfectly for portion control. They are good for any fitness level and offer a modifier for those that need it (No shame admitting here, I used the modifier a couple times!). There is little equipment needed since the workouts focus on using and building body strength. You will use a mini mat, a light set of weights and a heavier set of weights or resistance bands…that’s all!
Here is a short video I made to explain just How the 21 Day Fix Works!
***I HIGHLY recommend when starting the 21 Day Fix that you join a Challenge Group . A group will help to hold you accountable during your journey. It is a place that you can ask questions and find examples of meal plans and Fix approved recipes. Without the group, I probably wouldn’t have had the results that I did. The group kept me from falling off the wagon!
I have Challenge Groups starting soon! Please feel free to email me at firstname.lastname@example.org OR fill out this form and I will be in touch with you asap!
