Looking at the “old me” on the right in this picture there are a few things that I can say about that time in my life… I THOUGHT I was healthy! I was very busy working 2 jobs so that I could be independent and enjoy life. I was going to the gym and WORKING OUT several times a week, eating what I perceived to be healthy, socializing with friends over drinks a few nights a week. I thought I was in great shape. Of course I knew I could have been making better decisions when it came to eating, but I was young and it wouldn’t affect me. Right? Well fast forward a few years and a couple kids later…now I can finally say I actually am HEALTHY. I have taught myself to eat healthy, make smarter decisions, understand portion control, and follow a workout program that fits my even busier life than it used to be!
There is a HUGE misconception with perceived healthiness and ACTUALLY being healthy. For instance in the old me picture, I would only eat a couple of times a day to avoid gaining weight or I would heat up a lean cuisine (the name says it all right?!) OR I would pop a couple of supplements— you know, like hydroxycut or some extreme energy drink to curb my appetite and keep me running. The new me though knows better…MUCH BETTER! I know that you don’t need all of those “diet pills” or crash diets to lose weight and starving myself is definitely not the way to go either. By eating the RIGHT kinds of foods— lean meats, fresh fruit and vegetables, farm fresh dairy, and lots of water I LOST WEIGHT, improved my mood, am less stressed, and my family is too! Incorporating a workout program of only 30 minutes per day has given me more energy and has gotten me in the best shape I’ve ever been in. Think of that…feeling less stressed as a mother of 2 toddlers than a single gal livin it up! You live and you learn.
Cheers to the new me!
