PiYo: Is it Right For You?
So first, let’s make it clear that PiYo is not just Pilates and Yoga mashed together. Although the movements are inspired from those workouts, in PiYo you get a high intensity (cardio) low impact workout to improve your flexibility, stamina, and strength. You are not holding long poses like you do in yoga and every movement is not based upon your breathing like pilates.
Not only is PiYo a great total body workout, Chalene Johnson is an excellent trainer. She is so motivating and she explains every move so that you too can master it during the workout. The workouts range betweem 25-45 minutes. I was a HUGE skeptic of this workout, believe me when I say huge. I wrote this workout off before it was even released. I was at a Diamond and above weekend training retreat and we were given a sneak peek to the workout. After a run-through, I was intrigued. I researched about program as well as the benefits of both yoga and pilates and began to gain more and more interest. I concluded that my workout was missing this aspect. Including strengthening and stretching into your workout routine can completely change the game for you. There are many benefits to stretching and improving flexibility.
I fell in love with PiYo! So much that I became a certified PiYoLIVE instructor! I can now teach this amazing program to many people and help them improve their flexibility and joint mobility. It is a good feeling knowing that I have the skills to help others improve their quality of life.
