If I have said it once, I have said it a thousand times… Accountability is KEY!
Back in the day, before I had kids I would workout and be mindful of what I ate and for the most part lead a healthy lifestyle. I was “okay” with my body image. I wanted to be stronger and leaner, but I didn’t really know how and at the end of the day, I had no accountability to my goals. If I fell off track there was nothing there holding me accountable to get back on and keep going. That left me feeling defeated a lot and resulted in crash diets & yo-yo dieting. It is tough to find the motivation and discipline when you are on your journey alone. Having support and accountability can make or break your results.
An accountability partner will help you to focus on your goals when you start your fitness journey as well as adjust your goals as you begin to progress in your accomplishments. Sometimes it’s hard to figure out exactly what you are trying to accomplish along your journey. Having an accountability partner is a great way to get feedback, ideas and support when making this decision. They will help you weigh the pros and cons, set your primary goal and secondary goals and make you feel confident that you can accomplish what you set your mind to. Your accountability partner will help you work out the details once you set your goals.
Alright so your goals are set, what’s next? After you decide on the goals you want to reach during your fitness journey, your accountability partner can assist you in coming up with a real plan. Together, the two of you can map out how you are going to get to your goals. Because remember, a goal without a plan is just a wish! Maybe you need to wake up an hour earlier each day to fit in a morning run or to press play on your at home workout program… your partner can call you or shoot you a text to make sure that you don’t hit snooze! You might need to give up a few hours on the weekend to plan your meals, do grocery shopping and food prep for the next week… if the tow of you live close, you can do this together. Everything the two of you need to get started, you can do together.
Once you have gotten started on your fitness journey and you are working hard to reach your goals, you will start to notice that you come across some obstacles here and there. If you had a really bad day at work and all you want is a glass of wine and a bubble bath, you can call your accountability partner and they will help you to stay on track. They will remind you of the goals you set. They will be honest with you and let you know when you are slacking off and need to buckle down. They will be your cheerleader and keep you motivated to get through that workout so you wont feel guilty for having that glass of wine later. They will keep you accountable, and who doesn’t need help with that? I know I do! My partner and I remind each other that keeping your actions aligned with your goals is the best way to actually reach those goals.
I can’t stress enough how important it is to have an accountability partner or group for that matter on your fitness journey. You can build a really wonderful partnership with someone who will be there for you every step of the way.
