It is no secret that I LOVE the 21 Day Fix! I have followed this program and it’s more advanced version, the 21 Day Fix Extreme, many times. I love how simple it is and the fact that the workouts are only 30 minutes long. That is it! How can you not make 30 minutes time per day for yourself? (If this is something that you honestly think you cannot do, please send me a message in the comments and we can chat. After all, my job is being a Coach!)
Here I am following it again, but this time it is different, I am 20 weeks pregnant! I decided to document my entire time this round just like I did the first time. The only difference is that I am going to do it week by week to talk about the journey and track the progress of my quest for a healthy pregnancy.
So here is goes… WEEK 1
whoooop whoop! It’s day 1!
The health bet is off to a great start and the challengers are super enthused. (As expected! I mean come on, it’s day 1)
My workout, however did not really go according to plan… I thought ok I got this! Despite the little bit of extra baby weight and the over indulgence I experienced between the week of Christmas and this past weekend, I still thought this is in the bag.
After all, I’ve been teaching Piyo up until about 2 weeks ago when the studio where I teach closed for break. I was eating healthy for the most part with some treats here and there (or so I thought at the time, but in retrospect, it was more than here & there)
Then I pressed play on BOD and all of those expectation flew out the window!! ? The freakin warm up was hard!! I seriously thought for a minute, how bad would it be if I stopped after the warm up?! Would that still count?!
Ummm no coach, that would not count… Like at all! So I kept going. I took a couple of breaks and I modified pretty much the whole time. Which hey, I’m here to say that modifying is totally ok! (Lol put some music to that and it sounds like a jingle for a 90’s after school special ?)
So I modified, excuses ran through my head, my kids ran around me screaming like lunatics, BUT I kept going. I finished the full workout and I didn’t die. In fact, I felt a whole lot better!
So cheers to the day 1 workout! ??
and I am sore fo sure!
Today was upper fix and I modified a bit, but it’s all good its still week 1 and I’ve got plenty of time to hulk smash the workout.
Since I was sore today a focus of mine was water and lots of it ?? Drinking adequate water helps with muscle soreness and recovery. I also read eating a banana helps too so I did that as well. Chalked that bad boy up as a purple. (Container talk…don’t worry I’ll fill you in)
I can honestly say that my nutrition was on point today and these cute lil containers are my lifeline. They keep me in check and make sure I’m not over doing it in the food department. See for me, calorie counting, IIFMM (I think those are the letters), weighing, and tracking points just doesn’t work. I have tried it and it lasts like 2 whole days.
With the containers I can just scoop out a potion and it’s all done. Or cut up chicken breast and have just the right amount. It’s simple and to the point. Simple and convenient are like my 2 favorite words! ??
I had a great variety of food today and good thing because the baby doc reminded me of the how important it is to eat lots of protein, veggies, and fruit… Oh I’m all over that doc! ?????
Leg day ? Leg day is always killer for me and at times I thought ok, Autumn might really make me cry right now. But it’s like a hurt sooo good kinda deal. I know that it’s working bc I am feeling the burn.
So far this journey has been fun because my health bet group is off to such an awesome start. Everyone is there working out everyday, eating healthy everyday, and fueling their bodies with Shakeo… All taking steps to leading a healthier lifestyle.
It is such a supportive and motivating environment ❤️
And as you can see we are raising this baby right ⚫️? #steelersnation
Yep! I’m still doin it! Today was Pilates. Which seems like it is not really an intense workout, but half way through I was thinking the opposite. Working muscles that you don’t normally work can be killer!
That is what I love about the Fix, it is constantly switching it up and avoiding boredom.
Why Shakeo though? Because it is nutrition simplified. It is convenient and covers all the bases. It’s not just a protein shake, it provides the right micro and macro nutrients that our bodies crave. It fuels my body the right way and keeps me heathy. So why Shakeo? It’s more like… Why NOT Shakeo?!
Whew I made it to day 5
Today was cardio and also a day of some more modifying. In this case something is always better than nothing.
The workout was great and it was a nice mix of different cardio moves. I used to think “cardio” meant running on a treadmill or doing the elliptical for really long periods of time. But nope! This cardio was fun and switched it up.
I took a pic with my computer today because the convenience of BOD is ahh-mazing! I usually like to workout downstairs, but right now I have bins of maternity clothes and boxes of baby stuff out. So today I could stream right from my computer in my living room. Not having to fuss with DVDs is great!
It was exciting to see all of he challengers make it through their first week. Now, the challenging part… Their first weekend! This is the time that we have to be warriors and stick to the plan. The weekends pose many temptations and also many reasons to allow excuses to kick in. So we are staying strong and pushing through!
Today ends with a little photo like this. Snuggles on the couch with my pup. I watched a funny (pretty stupid ?) movie and now I’m reading a little before bed.
Today’s workout was my fave! It’s called Dirty 30 and it is awesome! It incorporates a little bit of everything. It’s my kind of workout. Tomorrow is yoga and I’m looking forward to that, I can tell my body can use a good stretch.
The first week of getting into a new program or routine always seems to be the toughest. Yes, the excitement and novelty of something new is there, but it also takes discipline and focus to really get moving and stay on track.
This week was great and I’m feeling good because I ate really well. My body is a bit tired, but I feel like that is expected of a pregnant mama with a 4 & 5 year old.
Excited for my normal Sunday routine of family, faith, and football with a little side of yoga.
Great week one! Only 2 more to go to complete this round of the Fix.
This morning’s yoga was relaxing and he stretch was just what I needed. It felt good to clear my mind and set up for a successful week 2.
Today I finalized the week 2 meal plan and added a few new recipes to try out this week. I hit up the grocery store for a few things that we didn’t always have an prepped some healthy snacks and meals for the week.
I snapped this pic this morning on the way to mass to share in my challenge group. Fueling the day with my healthy, superfoods shake keeps me going and feeling full. These days I feel hungry more often so having a convenient snack that satisfies my sweet tooth is perfect. That way I’m not reaching for a donut, cookie, or other empty calorie treat like that.
Looking forward to total body cardio tomorrow ?
And that’s a wrap! Week one felt great to get back into it. My first trimester was tough and I didn’t workout a whole lot. I would teach PiYo two days per week and try to take a walk or do light cardio one day per week. A lot of nausea and food aversions kept me from my routine and working out consistently. So to be back in it, it really feels great!
